From a Barn in Totleigh Barton

Before this week I thought it was enough to simply read about other places and that if one read voraciously enough about the world it was as good as visiting all those countries, seeing all those people- but I was wrong.

That is the first thing I learnt in interacting with the writers on this course- there is no substitute to actually going out there and meeting new people, seeing all those places and discussing ideas.

Eating pomme-bombs with Marita Golden and John Lyons was also a great experience. The evenings in the barn brought literature to life in a way I cannot explain in words. It is, as Michael would say, one of the “secrets of the barn”.
