Economic Tourism has a Capital

It’s amazing how Zimbabweans have mastered the art of economic tourism. Cross over into South Africa and they will tell you that Polokwane gives you the best value for money in terms of shopping. Not too far from the boarder. Has all the shops and banks that you need. Unlike Messina which is right next to the boarder but not as well developed as a town.
Any Zimbo who crosses the Beitbridge boarder post to go shopping and knows their stuff will tell you that Jumbo is the best place to buy kitchen utensils, plates, pots- that sort of thing.

If you’re looking for food items in bulk (cooking oil, soap, tinned foods, cool drink, alcohol, etc) then Trade Centre is the place you need to visit. They also stock a variety of other goods. According to their website: “Each Trade Centre store offers over 25000 quality branded products including groceries, electronic goods, music and dvd, sporting goods, DIY, etc. A Liquor World outlet will be found adjacent to each Trade Center premises. You will need an access card which is available free in order to purchase.”

Zimbabweans are at home in South Africa. What pun? A direction sign near Trade Centre in Polokwane.
Game and Makro are great for buying general groceries, electronics, clothes even and- well check out their sites for more. For affordable clothing though, Zimbo’s flock to Jet (A part of the Edcon Group which includes the famous Edgars Stores) and Mr Price.

Unofungei? Unoitei? I capture the stories that often escape the lenses of big media. I record the life of a pregnant nation. This is a door into the country that I love. These are my thoughts. These are my memories...
