A Academy Winners Make it to Idols Finals

Above: Idols in their own right- Tapiwa, Jonah, Eric, and Willis. Eric & Jonah took part in the idols competition & made to the next round.
It was great to see many of the young Zimbabwean talents who made it to the CBZ A Academy finals in 2006 and 2007 make it through to the next round of Idols to be held in Nairobi.Among those who earned themselves the coveted gold ticket to the Kenya round are Jonah Sithole, Mkhululi Bhebhe, Eric Moyo and Samukeliso Eneya.

Remember Samukeliso? She was a finalist at the CBZ A Academy in 2006. She’s also an idols contender this year.
I wish them all the best at the next stage.
I note rather interestingly that the line up of judges this time has not one, but two “play-the-Simon-Cowell-part” judges in the way of TK Siyandi (real name: Trevor Siyandi) of Zambia and Scar (Thato Bryan Matlhabaphiri) from Bostwana. This sometimes makes for great entertainment as they try to out-nastify each other, but which at the same time means they are often unnecessarily ruthless with the contestants.
Other Simon Cowell impersonators in previous Idols shows were Dede (Idols West Africa) and Randal (Idols South Africa). Remember them?
Third and only female judge, Angela Angwenyi (hailing from Nairobi, Kenya), a lot of the time more than makes up for this by calling all of the contestants “babes”, “sweetheart” or some other pet name.
Idols is currently screening on DStv Channel 198.

Unofungei? Unoitei? I capture the stories that often escape the lenses of big media. I record the life of a pregnant nation. This is a door into the country that I love. These are my thoughts. These are my memories...
