A friend of mine had a wedding in Nyanga on Friday last. Now, one of the first things I thought when I heard that the wedding would be in Nyanga was hey that’s a great way to limit the numbers. Have the wedding far away from Harare (Over 270 kilometres away!) and only those who really love you (close relatives & friends), those who feel obliged to be there (other close relatives and friends) and those who you pay to be there (photographers, decorators, planners, etc) will come. As HIFA rears it’s artistically intriguing head round the corner of time, arts lovers in Zimbabwe have started getting excited. They are so excited that on the first day that the ticket booths opened to the public (Monday 21st April), at least four shows sold out!

How many zeroes does a quintillion dollars have? Who cares? Even the biggest economies in the world don’t have budgets that big. The world’s biggest economy, the USA, had a GDP of just under US$14 trillion in 2007. So we can rest assured that the world’s economists and accountants don’t have to worry about how to balance quintillion figures. That’s by and large true, except in Zimbabwe… (more…)

Tafi Tangwena (played by Gift Chakuvinga) revels in his art. It is his way of life, expression, feeling, calling- his whole reason for existence. His ignorance of the un-attainability of an ideal world belies his intelligence as an omni-disciplined artist and performer. Certainly his creativity and talents are steeply rooted in his strength as a fearless defender of his own rights and beliefs, and a campaigner for people power.
