Dobet Gnahore - Energy in the form of a Diva

Dobet Gnahore (pronounced “dobey na-ho-ray”) is energy. Tonnes of it. Her main stage performance on day three of HIFA was electrifying.

Hailing from Ivory Coast and based in France, Dobet is described in the HIFA programme as “one of a new generation of African artists who are rewriting the rules about embracing musical tradition. By turns funky, delicate, forward-looking, and tradition-minded, her music is sumptuously beautiful and irresistably danceable…”

^ Strum that funky string tune

^ Dobet put her all into the performance and did not stop moving from beginning to end

^ Dance moves like I’ve never seen. Dobet was moving so fast that all the dance photos I took of her were blurred. Too bad that. The show though was memorable and had the audience screaming “One more! One more!” at the end. She obliged, much to our delight.
