Barack & Michelle Obama Start Fist Bump Craze

It was the most subtle of gestures- a small congratulatory fist bump (also known as a fist pound or knuckle bump) between Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, just before he gave his speech to claim victory in the Democratic primaries for the 2008 United States presidential race.
Most subtle. But most cool. And it’s creating a new craze all over the world…
Even in my own household- where we watched Barack’s speech at around 0400hrs in the morning (Wednesday 4th June, CAT) the fist bump has taken on a new meaning…

All over the Internet, bloggers and online newspapers are talkingabout the fist bump- though some are not sure what the gesture is called with one paper calling it a “fist to fist thumbs up” and someone else referring to it as “touching fists like that.”
The words used to describe it may differ- but the emotions it has evoked are universal:
Wrote one blogger: “I was trying to be all objective and level-headed on his lead up to the speech… but when I saw the fist pound I couldn’t stop cheering…”
- MyDD
And another: ““I never realized how romantic and respectful and mutually appreciative and loving a frat-tastic fist bump could be. Could it be the new peck-on-the-cheek?”
- The Frisky
“The coolest first couple ever..?” wrote someone else.
Google returned over 50,000 results for “obama michelle fist pound”. Could we have a new cult starting here?
That simple gesture has made Barack & Michelle the coolest political couple in the world. It’s made some who were indifferent start thinking: “Hey, maybe this guy is not so bad after all…”

Unofungei? Unoitei? I capture the stories that often escape the lenses of big media. I record the life of a pregnant nation. This is a door into the country that I love. These are my thoughts. These are my memories...

My analysis of the fist bump lends itself to the significance of an
African-American couple’s total unification. Their gesture to the world is that they are on the same page. They are on one accord.
Rather in the political realm or in their private life. I hope all African-Americans who are allowed the luxury of seeing the photo, keep the image burned in their minds that
African -Americans couples/marriages can be one and we can do so with dignity, pride and confidence. Rather Barak and Michelle Obama know it or not, their presence, at this time is to also give
African-Americans the loving spark they have been in need of for
many years. I know lots of African-Americans can profest their love and admiration for each other, however the Obamas have taken us to a new level…
