That famous hill in Warren Park at whose foot Hararians gather in their dozens for meat related rituals

On Saturday a friend of mine had a birthday and invited us to a celebratory meat-fest at the VERY popular Mereki in Warren Park, Harare. The taste of meat and sadza at this place is legendary.

Arriving there at around 3pm, we had some trouble finding parking as the place was so full of meat and braai loving Hararians. (more…)

It was the most subtle of gestures- a small congratulatory fist bump (also known as a fist pound or knuckle bump) between Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, just before he gave his speech to claim victory in the Democratic primaries for the 2008 United States presidential race.

Most subtle. But most cool. And it’s creating a new craze all over the world…

Zimbabwean Musicians Unite for Dave Moyo Benefit Concert

Musicians and music-lovers were saddened to hear of the passing away last week of brother and musician Dave Moyo, drummer, singer and music teacher, who died after a long illness.  Out of respect for his contribution to the Zimbabwea music industry, ‘United Musicians for Musicians’, a voluntary group of musicians, have come together to present a benefit concert on Thursday 5 June at The Mannenberg Jazz Club, in his honour and to assist the bereaved family financially. An Evening with Shimmer Chinodya

Shimmer Chinodya glows. He races back and forth across the ages with his words and holds his young audience captive for three full hours. He is a happy man and as he laughs at his first attempts at being a writer when he was just 8 years old we are drawn into his glow and laugh with him. We are laughing all evening.

Above: Shimmer Chinodya reads from his book “Harvest of Thorns”. It is one of his most celebrated novels. He finished it when he was 27 years old and at it’s peak as a set book for high schools it sold over 30,000 copies a year for 3 straight years.
