Pamberi Trust’s gender project FLAME is still burning strongly, this week for a gifted young woman who has recently emerged onto the music scene, Hope Masike.

^ Hope Masike- a rising star
Born into an artistic musical family where ‘there was always singing’, Hope has been singing all her life, in the last few years performing as backing vocalist for Colour Blu and others. In 2007 she joined the Zimbabwe College of Music Ethnomusicology programme, in her search for a better understanding and deeper relationship with music. Her studies in the programme involve focus on ethnic African instruments, and she soon started playing nyunga-nyunga (mbira). (more…)

Finally!!! That is the thought that imprinted the expression on my face when I met Lovemore Kambudzi. Finally. After seeing his paintings for so many years I met the man who turns daubs of colour- always on large canvases- into realistic depictions of scenes from every day Zimbabwe life.

The gifted keyboard player of the group Color Blu, Nick Nare, was recently involved in a bad car accident in which he was injured and his arm broken. Horrific medical expenses delayed his treatment, which in turn delays his chances of quick recovery and return to work. (more…)

The House of Hunger Poetry slam is on this weekend, 2 August 2008 at The Book Café. The Poetry slam is celebrating the International Youth Day which traditionally falls on 12 August according to the United Nations International Days calendar.

The gifted Zimbabwean singer, Eric Moyo, has won the first edition of Idols East and Southern Africa. At the grand finale held at the Bomas in Nairobi, Eric brought the house down over and over again with his effortlessy golden vocals.
His winnings include a recording contract with Sony BMG and US$80,000.00. And the Kenyans kept asking him how much that is in Zim dollars.
I worked it out: That’s approximately Z$48,000,000,000,000,000 (Z$48 quadrillion).

This year’s fair, (13 July 2008, Old Georgians Sports Club) was smaller than the one last year which was smaller than the one before it…
However, there was a reasonable turnout of shoppers and I for one really enjoyed the flame grilled chicken from one of the many food stands at the fair. (more…)
