There is something about Freshly Ground’s music and style that I can’t quite put my finger on. Something almost familiar- like “I know this music. I have grown up with it. It’s a part of me” and yet so different, new and exciting.
That certain something was present in explosive proportions tonight when they performed in front of one of the biggest audiences ever seen at HIFA. Over 5,000 people crammed into the HIFA main arena. (more…)

Stephane Juncker hypnotises people. Knocks them out totally. Wakes them up. Makes them do what he wants. At his opening show at HIFA this morning he had a group of volunteers believing they could speak Chinese. scratching each other’s feet, forgetting how to count and so many other tricks in a hilarious display of the power of this mysterious thing called hypnosis.

“The Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in South Africa provided a space in which all those who had been victims of human rights violations under aparthied could come forward and make their stories heard for the first time.”
This heart rending play is a look at the TRC through the eyes of a group of interpreters doing translations during the hearings.

I don’t know much about Opera Music but I sure do love the facial expressions on the faces of its practioners as they do their work- and Alenka Ponjavic is a prime candidate for this.

The 2008 Edition of the Harare International Festival of the Arts opened with a bang at party held for parnters and sponsors in the Harare Gardens this afternoon.
