A Pretty Pretoria- Zimbos Will Shop

And the Zimbos were shopping...

And while all the hustle and bustle of South Africa was happening around us, wherever we went we met some Zimbos and wherever we met them, they were shopping inordinately.

Where South Africans were buying one pair of jeans in Jet and Edgars, the Zimbo in the queue had five.

A Pretty Pretoria- Took My Breath Away

Is this a crane or a stork?

Pretoria took my breath away. It is such a pretty place. It’s not an imposing metropolis like its neighbour Johannesburg and yet it tells a story just as powerful, just as intriguing- in it’s rolling streets and endless restaurants, in it’s hugeoungous shopping malls and its busy down town stalls.

^ Pictured at Muckleneuk Park in Pretoria. Can someone tell me if this is a crane or a stork? (more…)

270km to Say I Do

The hand of promise

A friend of mine had a wedding in Nyanga on Friday last. Now, one of the first things I thought when I heard that the wedding would be in Nyanga was hey that’s a great way to limit the numbers. Have the wedding far away from Harare (Over 270 kilometres away!) and only those who really love you (close relatives & friends), those who feel obliged to be there (other close relatives and friends) and those who you pay to be there (photographers, decorators, planners, etc) will come. Domboshava Dawn

Eirik & Ola- specks of nature

According to the National Museums & Monuments of Zimbabwe “The Domboshava area is part of the Chinamora Igneous Complex. This formed over 2600 million years ago as a magma intrusion into the even more ancient greenstone rocks which underlie Harare…”

According to me: Domboshava is a beautiful place to witness a sunrise… (more…)

Skating on Ice, Starring on TV

On the ice at Vestkanten

I was still a kid when I first saw ice-skating on TV. From that time I wanted to try it out. Today, many years later I got the chance- and ended up skating on Norwegian National TV! A 15 minute bus trip from town, through two tunnels, and past lots of water took us to Loddefjord, a suburb in Bergen. There is a mall there called Vestkanten and one of its attractions is an ice skating rink.

No Horny Helmets

Some Viking boats had elaborate designs

Viking helmets had no horns. I promise I’ve heard that somewhere before but I refused to believe it. Arrrgghh! The agony. Killing all the romantic pictures of glorious horn-helmeted warriors that I had in my mind.
