Aoooooooooooooooooooooo,
It's a long cry of painfulness,
And it rings out along the plains,
It's a miserable story of death,
And it's all told in just one breath.

A lone hound is howling tonight,
For many miles he is heard,
And now a million more are howling;
From streets, from homes, from a thousand dog pounds,
Comes the cry of (a million) weeping hounds.

They howl in memory of a comrade departed,
They howl in unison throughout the night,
And when they finally fall to sleep,
Their faces are all peacefully growing,
For they know that tonight in Heaven,
Another hound is howling.
